ABOUT:

Nyles Lannon has been bouncing around the San Francisco music scene since the early 2000s.

A native of Marin County, just north of San Francisco, Lannon grew up immersed in the sounds of classic 60s and 70s psychedelic bands. But he soon obsessed on Bowie, the Cure, My Bloody Valentine. He was drawn to the the nascent “shoegaze” scene in the 90s. He also liked acoustic guitar and found himself drawn to Neil Young, Elliott Smith, Dylan and Leonard Cohen. Then came 70s fusion and funk. Experimental electronic music, ambient, noise….

Lannon has put out 4 solo albums and has been in the band Film School since 2002. His solo albums are usually in the world of acoustic pop, marrying a “west coast” strummy acoustic style with electronic pulses and synths. His work with Film School is mostly as a guitarist, collaborative song writer and producer, where his sound fits into the shimmery, atmospheric world of shoegaze and dream pop.  He has released a number of albums with that band (the latest being Film School “Fields” that came out September 2023, with a tour of Japan in 2024)

Back around the time his son was born, Lannon decided he no longer wanted to tour and launched a composing and licensing company. His music has been in hundreds of commercials, TV shows, and movies. Brands like Lexus, Home Depot, Southwest Airlines and Dell, shows like Saturday Night Live, Shameless, Portlandia, Coldcase, and countless others, spanning genres and trends. His ability to be a bit of a musical chameleon has served him well. And through the years, he continues to put out albums.

Lannon has several other projects. 2014 he released the electro-indie rock Sacred Caves “Love Comes with a Knife” LP with Greg Bertens of Film School.

In 2023 he released an album called “Vanishing” with his son for their band Nyte Skye, on the label Sonic Ritual. They have toured up and down the west coast several times. They play locally around the Bay Area frequently.

2024 saw the release of a couple other new projects: National Sweetheart, with Neil Rodenmeyer, and Total Brightness, a collaboration with Alex Kemp.
